About

Mike Barrett

As an integrative therapist, I want to understand how you experience the world: what feels stuck or difficult, but also what feels possible. I aim to provide a space where you feel supported and at ease, while also having room to question, explore and expand.

I draw from a variety of ideas about how we make sense of our lives. Sometimes, this may involve exploring early relationships, family and patterns that have developed over time. At other points, it may be more helpful to pay close attention to what is happening in the present moment – in the mind and body.

When we are faced with uncertainty or circumstances beyond our control, questions of meaning and choice also come into focus. I believe it is important for therapy to keep one eye on the future, not losing sight of your hopes and what you want for yourself.

Our weekly 50-minute sessions can be in-person, online or a mixture of both. I offer an initial consultation free of charge, giving us an opportunity to get a sense of each other and consider whether we might be a good fit to work together longer-term.

My approach is inclusive, and I work with people from a range of backgrounds, identities, cultures and experiences, including diverse ways of expressing gender and sexuality.

Background and Training

I am a qualified therapist and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), and I work in accordance with their Ethical Framework. I received my qualification in Integrative Counselling from The Minster Centre, where I am currently completing a Masters in Integrative Psychotherapy.

I came to talking therapy with a background in the arts, which continues to inform my approach. I firmly believe in the importance of creativity, intuition and the possibility of finding new ways of seeing or understanding the world – and this extends to the way I work in therapy.

Alongside my private practice, I have almost two years’ experience volunteering with a bereavement service in East London, supporting people through experiences of grief.

Areas I have experience with:
● Depression · anxiety · stress
● Grief · loss · endings
● Family · friendships · conflict

● Obsessions · compulsions · rumination
