Hello, my name is Nina and I am a qualified Intergrative Psychotherapist and Art Psychotherapist, offering talking Psychotherapy and Art Psychotherapy as distinct approaches.
I have worked across both inpatient and outpatient settings in the NHS as well as in private practice. I work with adults (18+) experiencing anxiety, depression, navigating menopause, women’s health, Trauma, PTSD, grief, relationship and identity difficulties, those who have mixed cultural identities, and those who feel stuck or unfulfilled in their lives.
I believe therapy offers a way to explore our experiences, relationships and patterns of behavior. By reflecting on what ‘did or didn’t happen’ to us throughout our lives, therapy can help us to develop greater self-understanding, make sense of difficult feelings, and find new possibilities for living.
Alongside talking therapy, we might use creative approaches including painting, drawing, sculpture, clay, collage, sand tray, and poetry. The arts can help us to access unconscious processes that are often difficult to express verbally. It can provide an embodied way of approaching your inner world, allowing sensory processing, interoception and a mind and body connection. You do not need to be good at art to work in this way, art psychotherapy is not about making a masterpiece or producing a particular kind of artwork, however a curiosity, a willingness and a want to change is important.
My way of being in the room is relational, warm, adaptable and trauma informed. I come from a psychoanalytical and psychodynamic, attachment focused background, which means that unconscious processes and your past his/her story will be an important aspect of the work. My main areas of experience and expertise have been within trauma, including childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence and emotional abuse, cohercian, and also medical trauma aswell as living with a life limiting illness. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is where most of the healing happens, and so I offer longer term therapy to foster and build safety and trust.
I offer a free 30 minute phone call so that we can introduce ourselves before meeting in person. Otherwise we will start with a one hour consultation in person and proceed from there.
