About

Helen Lawson

Welcome.

I offer a calm, thoughtful, and collaborative space where you can speak openly and begin to make sense of what’s going on in your life. I work with adults from all backgrounds and life experiences. I offer both open-ended and short-term therapy.

I’m a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, trained at the University of East London and registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I engage with regular CPD to develop my approach.

My approach to therapy is integrative, grounded in humanistic values and informed by psychodynamic thinking. This means I adapt my work to suit you as an individual, while holding in mind how past experiences – especially early relationships – can continue to shape how we feel and relate to others in the present. I believe that meaningful change comes from both feeling genuinely understood in the therapy relationship, and from gradually coming to understand ourselves – our patterns, responses, and emotional world – in new and more honest ways.

I place particular importance on the relationship between us – how we build trust, how we work together, and what that might reveal. You don’t need to have things worked out before you come to therapy. Whether you’re feeling anxious, stuck, overwhelmed, or simply want to understand yourself better, we can take time to explore things at your pace, in your own words.

Clients often tell me they appreciate the steady, reflective space we create together – somewhere they can pause, think, and connect more honestly with themselves. My role is not to offer quick fixes, but to support you in developing deeper insight, clarity, and the freedom to choose how you respond to life’s challenges.

Beginning our work together
The first session is a chance for us to meet, talk through what’s brought you to therapy, and begin to get a feel for whether we’d work well together. I’ll ask some gentle questions to get a sense of your story, but there’s no expectation to share anything you’re not ready to. We’ll also talk about practicalities — whether you’re looking for short-term or open- ended support, session times, fees, and how we might begin. You’re welcome to come with questions or concerns about therapy itself. This first session lasts 50 minutes, at my
standard fee.

If you’d prefer a brief introductory phone call before continuing, I offer a free 15-minute telephone conversation to find out if we’re a good fit for working together.

My fees are from £80 per 50 minute session, and sessions can be online or in person.
